False Jordan Poole report is exactly what Warriors desperately need

We've officially hit the silly part of the offseason where false reports go viral in the hope of something actually happening, particularly when it comes to the Golden State Warriors who've done very little this summer.

That's exactly what happened recently with a fake report on Jordan Poole, with one X/Twitter account generating nearly one million impressions already by claiming that the New Orleans Pelicans were waiving the former Warrior guard.

Not only that, but 'Owen Prescott' also stated that the Warriors were monitoring Poole for a potential reunion. While this is all fake news, it's actually the kind of move Golden State desperately need after a slow summer where they've failed to sign a single rival player in free agency.

It's not the most outrageous outcome in the world to suggest after Poole experienced a year in which he spent a significant period outside the Pelicans rotation, and where he shot only 37.2% from the floor and 33.3% from 3-point range.

Even despite being on an expiring contract, Poole's $34 million salary may simply be too much for New Orleans to move in a trade, making a buyout plausible and something that's even be floated by some analysts in recent weeks.

The Warriors should absolutely be interested in a Poole reunion if he were to hit the market, not just because of the fairytale aspect but because he still provides some offensive juice the team needs while Jimmy Butler remains sidelined by injury.

The 27-year-old can still create off the dribble and make plays in a way that no one on the Golden State roster can deliver outside Stephen Curry. How it would work with Draymond Green still in the fold is another question entirely, but perhaps that can be overcome if Poole believes his only path back to relevance is with the team that made him who he was before his career has come tumbling down in the years since.

Jordan Poole buyout at the Pelicans remains highly unlikely

If interim head coach James Borrego had won the top job in New Orleans on a permanent basis, you could understand a Poole buyout taking place given his regular place outside the rotation last season.

However, with Jahmahl Mosley taking over perhaps the Pelicans think that a new voice could revolutionize Poole in his second season with the team, or at least hope that's the case before reconsidering a trade or buyout closer to the mid-season deadline.

Poole averaged only 13.4 points and 3.1 assists last season, but he did average a career-high 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists on 37.8% 3-point shooting in his final year with the Washington Wizards the season before.
